Calcutta Youth Choir: Performs in St. James School

The Calcutta Youth Choir performs at St. James' School. The choir sang 14 folk songs, taking the audience on a musical journey across the Indian subcontinent and beyond. Folk tunes from Odisha, Assam, Maharashtra and Goa had the audience tapping their feet. A love song from Czech Republic and a medley from the Ivory Coast and Israel added an international flavour to the evening. Pianist Rajlakshmi Syam got the show rolling with musical notes from Russia and concluded her recital with Piyu bole piya bole. "The Calcutta Youth Choir is known for its cultural bent and the concert stood true to the ethos and tradition that St. James' upholds," said principal T.H. Ireland. Picture by Koushik Saha

Live Program in Calcutta Celebrates Sudhin Dasgupta and Salil Chowdhury

Amit Fan Club has organized many memorable musical evenings in the past, but those musical evenings had been related to R.D.Burman and Kishore Kumar. For the first time they organized a musical programme called ‘MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THESE” featuring umpteen gems of two musical geniuses Sudhin Dasgupta and Salil Chowdhury which were performed by various singers or musicians who had been associated with the two geniuses at Uttam Mancha recently. The programme started with a performance by the Calcutta Youth Choir who performed three numbers composed by Sudhin Dasgupta and then 3 numbers by Salil Chowdhury.This was the pattern being followed for the rest of the evening by singers like Saikat Mitra, Antara Chowdhury and others. Some musicians like Bhanu Gupta, Soumitra Chatterjee, Tapas Bhowmick and Rocket Mondol who had been associated with the two geniuses performed a fewnumbers on their own as well as accompanying the other artistes.
